We teamed up with USTWO, a digital product studio and Where are the Black Designers?, a volunteer-run, nonprofit that exists to heal, support and amplify Black creativity, to spotlight the incredible stories of Black Designers.

Our star-studded panel featuring Adryan Tunde, Principal Product Designer at Pearson; Aderonke Oke, Product Designer at Siemens; and Venessa Bennett, UX Director at Dye & Durham Corporation, shared inspiring and candid stories of their unique paths in the design industry.

From overcoming the hurdles of landing that first design job to nailing interviews post-bootcamp, we uncovered the crucial skills for progressing into design leadership roles.

Key takeaways:

👉 Be intentional: From where you want to work, what you’re good at and why you're connecting with certain individuals.

👉 Make strategic connections: Be intentional of who you network with and ‘shoot your shot’ if you think they can propel your career forward.

👉 Personal branding: Your LinkedIn, CV, and portfolio should be consistent and define what sets you apart as a designer.

Following this discussion, our Co-Founder Danielle, the host of 'How to Get My Job' podcast (available on Spotify and LinkedIn), led a compelling panel talk. Our podcast strives to demystify how successful people in the product and design space navigate their jobs to provide insights to help others coming up after them.
